Drone Operations Privacy Policy

We take the right to privacy very seriously. The Information Commissioners’ Office (ICO) ‘Drone Webpage’ states that if a drone has a camera, its use has the potential to be covered by the Data Protection Act. Guidance is provided in the ICO ‘CCTV Code’

Whilst aerial photography for the news media or for artistic purposes, such as for film making (activities relating to journalistic, artistic and literary purposes) are exempt from provisions of the Data Protection Act, the ICO ‘CCTV Code’ does apply to information collected by systems that is then provided to the media. All other aerial photography is subject to the ICO ‘CCTV Code’.

The risk to the privacy of indivials will be assessed and minimised to ensure the rights of such individuals are maintained where possible – all in accordance with ICO guidance.

As part of our flight operations we always undetake an assessment of such issues. The flight paths on any mission will be selcted carefully to minimise any such privacy risks. A Data Protection Impact Aseessment (DPIA) will be undertaken before each flight and a copy maintained in operational record logs – in accordance with ICO guidelines.

We have details here on our website for any individuals to be able to contact us and query any such privacy issues.
